This same Spirit that breathed new life into Jesus in the tomb and was poured out on His followers is still with us today. Here are five verses that remind us of what the Holy Spirit can and will empower us to do.

Before Jesus left Earth, He promised His disciples a friend in His stead who would never leave them, and therefore us (John 14:15–17). This friend was and remains the Holy Spirit and it was always part of God’s plan to give us His Spirit in order to do His works on Earth (Joel 2:28).

Jesus came to Earth most importantly to atone for our sins but also to show us how we could live empowered by His Spirit.

Once He had been resurrected Jesus breathed on His disciples (John 20:22) and commanded them to receive the Holy Spirit. In the book of Acts, all heaven breaks loose (Acts 2) when the Spirit fell on the disciples in the upper room and the world was turned on its head.

This same Spirit that breathed new life into Jesus in the tomb and was poured out on His followers is still with us today. Here are five verses that remind us of what the Holy Spirit can and will empower us to do.

1. The Holy Spirit fills us with hope, peace and joy as we trust in Him

Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

2. The Holy Spirit is meant to be our teacher

John 14:26, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

3. The Holy Spirit gives us boldness

Acts 4:31, “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”
