‘Built on the Word of God’: Tyler Perry Buried Bibles Throughout Foundations of New Studio

History in the Making: Tyler Perry, sole proprietor, has built the largest movie studio in America on the word of God…literally.

“When I built my studio, I built it in a neighborhood that is one of the poorest black neighborhoods in Atlanta so that young black kids could see that a black man did that, and they can do it too.”

I wanted the very foundation of this studio to be built on the word of God.

800 personally invited guests got to witness history in the making as they attended the official reveal of Tyler Perry Studios. This historical studio is now the largest in America, comprised of 330 acres—making it larger than Hollywood’s Disney, Warner Bros. and Paramount combined! Perry doubled down on his historical moment by being the first black man to own a studio of this size outright.

Perry’s success is being recognized and celebrated by many in the African American community. Oprah thanked Perry for the iconic moment on Instagram, “[Tyler Perry] you built the biggest studio in America, one that can fit all the other Hollywood studios combined and still have room to spare. You’ve also created a dream of hope and possibility for everyone to know that no matter who you are or where you come from, you can always do better when you’re aligned with the Divine. Thank you for the name of the sound stages. I love mine.”

Perry’s intentionality of the movie studio’s location plays out in a few ways. In addition to it being a place of inspiration for the nearby neighborhoods, Perry is also extremely proud that his empire now rests on what used to be Fort McPherson—an old Confederate base.

“Think about the poetic justice in that,” Perry states. “The Confederate Army is fighting to keep Negroes enslaved in America, fighting, strategy, planning on this very ground. And now this very ground is owned by me.”

Perry also revealed in an interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning that he is “most excited about” his plans to use part of the 330-acre studio to establish housing for women and girls who are victims of trafficking as well as LGBTQ youth that have been displaced.

“Having a compound that’s a beautiful place right here, somewhere on this 330 acres where they’re trained in the business and they become self-sufficient,” he said. “They can live in nice apartments, there’s daycare, all of these wonderful things that allows them to re-enter society and then pay it forward again.”

Tyler Perry Studio’s is already a historical and iconic place and the unveil is only the beginning of many great things to come. To complete Perry’s shining moment he held a church service for all in attendance of the Grand Opening. Capturing moments on his Instagram Perry concludes, “I couldn’t close the weekend without Jesus meeting us on the lawn at the Studio!! Having a full heart and a thankful soul to all that have prayed me all the way here.”

Attendees at the event were amazed as Tyler Perry shared stories of burying a Bible in the foundations of each sound-stage on the lot. Perry was quoted by attendees saying, “I wanted the very foundation of this studio to be built on the word of God.”

“I can’t explain how many icons were there to see history turn a page!” Bishop T.D. Jakes gushed. “It felt like all the ancestors were rejoicing at what God has done. I didn’t see anyone that didn’t have gratitude on their face!”
