He’s a top soccer player, plays for one of the best teams in the world, earns millions of dollars every year and he uses a beaten-up iPhone 7.
His name is Sadio Mane and he’s one of Liverpool’s famed front three, who are leading Liverpool on an unprecedented unbeaten run atop the English Premier League.
Mane, 27, was photographed entering Liverpool’s stadium carrying an old battered iPhone. It struck a sharp contrast to many of his peers and had many on social media wondering why he wouldn’t just go out and buy a new phone or, at least, fix his cracked screen with the oodles of money he has in his bank account.
It didn’t take long for a meme to be made about him along with a quote from Mane explaining how he likes to spend his money.
“Why would I want ten Ferraris, 20 diamond watches and two jet planes? What would that do for the world? I starved, I worked in the fields, I played barefoot and I didn’t go to school. Now I can help people. I prefer to build schools and give poor people food or clothing,” Mane told TeleDakar in an interview.
Mane has indeed put his money where his mouth is and has donated over $250,000 to help build a school in his homeland of Senegal last year.
