“Love cannot remain by itself—it has no meaning, Love has to be put into action and that action is service… All works of love are works of peace.” Mother Teresa
Words of love are so romantic when listening to a Shakespearian play about star-crossed lovers, or at the end of a romantic movie when a beautifully rehearsed speech is delivered at the perfect moment. But it’s true; love is even more beautiful when put into action.
That’s why we have dedicated a series to celebrate the incredible power of love in action, out in the world. In part two, we watched as a man nursed an injured baby deer back to health and released him into the wild—and we saw a little boy get a surprise birthday present from a very unexpected source.
Examples of people living out a life of love are the stories that need to be told, celebrated and shared. Whether big or small, acts of love can change the world.
Here are a few more of our favorite beautiful, powerful acts of love:
1. A Herd of Elephants Prove that Love is Universal
We’ve seen some touching videos that show loving humans going out of their way to help animals, however, examples of animals doing the same is yet another example of just how universal the concept of love is in all kinds of living things.
This baby elephant managed to get himself stuck in the wrong edge of the bank. We watch as he desperately tries to pull himself up and over the bank back to his mother, but with no success. The mother elephant also tries in vain to rescue her calf on her own, however, it is not until the other elephants in the herd observe their struggles that the baby elephant is lifted to safety in an amazing way.
Watch the incredible moment start at 3:30 minutes into the video.
2. The Fast Food Waitress Who Communicated with Love
Cynthia Walker got a surprise from a loving Chick-fil-A waitress when she went inside the restaurant to place her order. Walker suffers from various disabilities in addition to being deaf, so is not used to being able to act independently outside of the home. But much to her surprise, as she approached the counter and tried to start communicating, the waitress immediately responded back in sign language without even skipping a beat.
Watch to see Cynthia independently order for the first time in her life. The joy on her face is priceless.
3. The Judge Who Brought Love into Her Courtroom
Kentucky District Court Judge Amber Wolf knew that the couple that was just charged for burglary would not be allowed to have any contact after leaving her courtroom. But then she noticed that the father had yet to meet his newborn son. Despite their crime and in a gesture of kindness and mercy, Wolf made a temporary exception on the court record to allow him to meet his one-month-old son for a few minutes right in the courtroom. This loving gesture brought both him (and the rest of the courtroom) to tears.
