“Her love was full-throated and all-encompassing and unadorned. Every day she blew through her entire reserve.” –Cheryl Strayed, “Wild”
Full-throated, all-encompassing, unadorned love. Are you living your life giving that kind of love to those around you? To your family, to your friends, to your neighbors… even to your enemies?
We’re talking about the incredible power of love in a three-part series celebrating love and those who freely give it. And it’s not only those grand gestures of love that are worth celebrating; it’s also the beautiful, subtle and sometimes unnoticed acts of love that naturally exude out of those with kindness, empathy and service in their hearts: warriors of love.
Examples of people living out a life of love are the stories that need to be told, celebrated and shared. Whether big or small, acts of love can change the world.
In part one of our series, we cried happy tears watching the story of a gym teacher who cheered his student with cerebral palsy on as he struggled to finish a race at school, igniting the rest of the class to join him in cheering on the boy until he made it over the finish line. And we smiled as an exhausted pup was carried down a hill on a stretcher by a rescue team dedicated to bringing him to safety when he was too tired to go on. Now, we have some more inspirational stories to inspire you with the incredible power of love:
1. The Man Who Nursed a Baby Deer Back to Life with Love
When Darius Sasnauskas happened to witness a helpless mother abandon her injured fawn, he knew he had to take action. After watching to make sure the mother deer was not returning, he went out to bring the baby fawn inside to shelter. He loved, fed and cared for the baby while nursing his injured leg back to health until he felt like it was ready to return to his family. Watch the video to see what happens as the baby deer is released back into the wild.
*Note: Sasnauskas was clearly equipt to help the baby deer in this particular case, but if you do find an injured animal in the wild, the best thing to do is always to call a wildlife rehabilitator for assistance. The Humane Society has great resources to help you decipher when to interject into the life of a wild baby animal.
2. The Man Who Loved His Neighbor by Giving Him the Shirt off His Back
Our neighbors are all around us. Not just the ones who live in the house across the street but even those who live on the streets. One freezing cold night, 23-year-old Joey Resto, was taking the downtown “A” train to his home in Brooklyn when he noticed a shirtless homeless man riding the train with him, shivering from the cold. As the man who Resto described as suffering from a mental disability muttered to himself about being robbed of his clothing, Resto took action. He gave the man the shirt off his own back, even helping him put it on after seeing that he was unable to physically do it himself. But it didn’t stop there:

3. A Little Boy Finds Love from the Most Unexpected Source
Little Marshall really loves the British Queen’s Guards. But unfortunately, the guards themselves aren’t known to show much love to anyone besides the royal family. They’re famously known to never break character and acknowledge anyone from the public that comes to watch them at work. Except in Marshall’s case. See what happens when Marshall’s mother brings him to the changing of the guard for his fourth birthday. We think the Queen would even have a hard time resisting his cute, little face!
Stay tuned for part three of our series with even more inspiring stories coming tomorrow.
