A mother of two who was blinded in the Las Vegas mass shooting has finally reunited with her two young children and remains upbeat in the face of her lengthy recovery process.

Los Angeles resident Chelsea Romo, 28, was attending the Route 91 Harvest festival in October when a bullet struck her in the face, WHO13 reported. During the chaos, she could be heard screaming that she could not see.

One of Romo’s friends, Kelsi Kessler, had also been shot—in the upper arm. Kessler somehow managed to help carry Romo over a fence to get her help.

Doctors were unable to save her left eye due to a piece of metal shrapnel that had become lodged inside. She is currently legally blind and will require a cornea transplant to save her right eye.

Cheering neighbors lined the streets when Romo returned home to finally reunite with her 5-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter.

A GoFundMe page for Romo had raised nearly $100,000 by Tuesday.

Fifty-eight people were killed and more than 450 injured in the shooting. Police have not yet determined a motive for gunman Stephen Paddock.
