What Is the Love of Christ? and Is It Actually Perfect?

It’s Easter season, and what better way to rejoice in the passion of His sacrifice than to reflect on these four ways, among many, that His love is perfect in our lives.

His love casts out all fears.

Accepting His love, and loving the Lord, means knowing that His love rids your life of fear. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18). Knowing and trusting that He loves you means that the monster of fear releases its stronghold on your life and you can humbly walk through darkness and misfortune because He is fighting your fears for you.

His love strengths our worldly relationships.

Our relationships become stronger, healthier and more joyful when we share the same love with others that God offers to us. Although we cannot emulate His perfect ways, we are able to offer our loved ones, acquaintances and strangers alike a glimpse into the perfect love God gives us on an everyday basis. “A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35).

His love for you will never change or go away.

“Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39). No matter how often or severely people sin, God’s love remains. The truth is, we sin… a lot. Every day, we sin, and every day, God shares His perfect love with us so that we may be forgiven and renewed. There is no such thing as a person God no longer loves. God loves you but hates the sin, yet He works without ceasing to direct us toward His Kingdom. Never let the enemy convince you otherwise.

God is self-sacrificing.

His perfect love has been revealed in the most powerful way—through sacrifice! Sin, doubt and insecurity no longer have power and authority over His children because Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross. The place of God’s self-sacrifice is where your value exists. Recognizing where your value comes from pulls you away from experiencing emptiness because you become grounded in God’s perfect love and unending grace. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
