Singer and actor Lenny Kravitz, who is Christian, is calling for prayers after Hurricane Dorian ripped through the Bahamas, where the entertainer maintains a home and recording studio.
“I pray that life will be spared, and when this clears, we are going to do everything we can,” Kravitz wrote in an Instagram post earlier this week.
On Friday, Kravitz appeared on CNN, where he said the islands of Freeport and Abaco have been “devastated” by Dorian.
“I’m gonna make sure that I keep the word out and we don’t stop, because these islands are gonna be dealing with this for the next couple of years,” he said. “It could be longer. So we’re just gonna have to be diligent.”
As CBN News reported earlier this week, Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane—the worst in the island nation’s history with winds reaching 185 mph.
The official death toll in the Bahamas currently stands at 30 people, though it is expected to continue rising and could reach “staggering” numbers, according to the country’s government.
“The public needs to prepare for unimaginable information about the death toll and the human suffering,” said Health Minister Duane Sands.
One resident living on Abaco Island told the BBC, “It was like being in a tornado for hours on end. Everything is gone.”
Please continue to pray for the Bahamas, those who lost loved ones and those who are now homeless as a result of the devastating storm. The country is now standing at the start of a long and difficult journey toward recovery.
