Actor, Producer and beloved Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron is returning to the screen in a new way. TBN is launching his new series One on One featuring interviews with people of influence to discuss faith, life and hope.
The series is unique where Cameron challenges each guest to a one-on-one challenge from rock climbing, go-cart racing, navigating escape rooms and more.
I had the amazing opportunity to interview Kirk for LightWorkers about the inspiration for his new series.
“Often the media doesn’t have the conversations I like to have with people…there’s so many inspiring people in sports, in media, in politics, in business that have a very strong faith in God. And that’s not always the content the media likes to show…I’ve had these amazing talks with some of my friends”
While I may not be able to make a huge difference in the area of drug trafficking or human trafficking, I know that I can make movies that are inspiring to people about marriage, about family.
Kirk’s friends are quite diverse. He features stars from Fuller House’s Candace Cameron Bure, Writer and Speaker Eric Metaxas, to Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson. Kirk spoke to how he curated this special group of voices for this series.
“I hit up some of my closest friends and they happen to be my inspiring friends. It’s everyone from the cast of Growing Pains to my sister Candace, Melissa and Bridgett, to Eric Metaxas, Phil Robertson.. I think that’s what makes the world so great [and] the church so great is that there is an amazing amount of variety. That’s what I like—when I sit down to dinner I love a smorgasbord…the fact that they have this one thing in common, character, faith and they have a heart that desires to bless others.”
His core intent is that the show break open topics that mass media seldom dive into. And by exploring the diverse path of each influencer, we can glean wisdom about how to make a difference stating “Wherever you are in the world you can make a difference there.” He continues on sharing an example of how our unique gifts can inspire each of us to walk the path in front of us: “While I may not be able to make a huge difference in the area of drug trafficking or human trafficking, I know that I can make movies that are inspiring to people about marriage, about family.”
Kirk says he hopes viewers will be inspired to do their part in impacting the world for good. “I think you’ll walk away saying I’m not the only one who has this faith, who wants to make a difference. There’s actually millions of us and I just watched 12 of them in all these different areas and I’m part of an army of faith and compassion that can change the world, and I’m going to do my part.”
In an interview with Christian Post Cameron says he wants to “remind people that when we get in partnership with God, and we do things His way, we can solve the world’s problems and we can bring people to a real relationship with God, which will bring them the peace and the joy that they’re looking for.”
Cameron wants this series to be a light and uplifting program to counter the harshly negative news cycle we’re faced with.
