When you think of Kim Kardashian-West’s brand, the first things that come to mind are fashion, beauty, social media, and of course, reality TV. Kim has many successful businesses including KKW Beauty, KIMOJI fragrances and mobile app Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, all of which have solidified her place as a gifted entrepreneur, especially when selling her own brand.
Kim has recently shifted her focus and chosen to use the weight of her brand for social justice, specifically criminal justice reform. She started with joining the charge of activists and lawyers who were fighting for clemency for Alice Johnson, who was serving a mandatory life sentence for a first-time conviction. Kim took this fight to the White House and met with President Trump, who shortly after fulfilled the request for clemency for Johnson.
There is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. —Kim Kardashian West
Kim hasn’t stopped there. Since then, Kim has been instrumental in freeing 17 inmates through her support of Brittany K. Barnett & MiAngel Cody’s Buried Alive Project. She also made headlines when she tried to pay the rent of a former inmate who was struggling to get approved for an apartment.

Kim then sent shockwaves through the media when she recently announced in an interview with Vogue Magazine that she is taking her interest in social justice a step further and seeking to become a lawyer. It was surprising to many to see her take this step that was very far outside the career path she has taken up to this point. Kim’s choice for this career path was simple. If she was going to continue her fight for social justice, it was straightforward: if she knew more, she could do more.
To the naysayers, Kim says, “there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. It’s a reminder that no matter what lane you’re in, if you feel called to put on your signal and change lanes at any point, don’t let anything stop you.”
While some may believe this is a surprise, you cannot ignore that Kim is following down the footsteps of her father’s path. As many may know, Kim’s late father, Robert Kardashian, was a successful attorney and businessman. Before her rise to fame, Kim was clearly influenced by her father’s career; starting with businesses. She started a high-end closet organizing business with clients such as Serena Williams, Cindy Crawford and Paris Hilton. She continued by opening a clothing boutique, DASH, with her sisters, Kourtney & Khloe.
Kim’s new career shift is continuing down the route that her father paved in his own life and career. When you look at it that way, this career choice may not be as surprising as it seems!
