You walk into the party. Everything looks normal. The music’s playing, the drinks a-clinking. But something is undeniably off. And you can feel it. There is a definite vibe popping, and it is not cute.

We’ve all had that moment and it turns out science is finally catching up with what we’ve all intuitively experienced our entire lives. Vibes are a real thing ya’ll!

Studies are proving that our emotions have the power to literally shape the world around us. Like in a physical, real way, not just our perceptions, but actual, physical reality!

The research leading to this breakthrough began with scientists conducting experiments where sealed human DNA is placed in close proximity to a test subject. The test subject is given emotional stimulus with the objective of observing whether it affected the DNA in any way. Well, guess what? It did.

The DNA responded in real-time to the emotions of the test subject. In the presence of negative emotions, the DNA tightened and when positive emotions were felt by the test subject, the coils of the DNA loosened and relaxed. This led researchers to the astonishing conclusion that our emotions produce effects that defy the conventional laws of physics.

The breakthroughs didn’t end there. In a second, unrelated experiment, scientists took DNA from donors to measure electrical changes based on emotional stimulation. The test subjects were shown video clips designed to generate emotional responses. The DNA was taken out of the room into an entirely different place in the building. When they measured the electrical changes, they discovered the DNA responded moment by moment with the donor. They had identical responses at the exact same time with no delay. Even separated by distance, the DNA matched the donor peak for emotional peak and valley for emotional valley.

The scientists wanted to see just how far they could push it, and then tried separating donors from their DNA by 50 miles. And still, the result was the same. There was absolutely no lag time, the DNA’s response was immediate and directly correlating to the donor. And this lead to a startling conclusion.

Human emotions are capable of communicating beyond the limitations of space and time. It sounds like a plot point in the latest streamable sci-fi mini-series, but this is real life. Our thoughts and feelings are not limited by our bodies. This is something we’ve all experienced on an intuitive level, as in the aforementioned party example, and now science is backing it up.

The final experiment in this trio truly takes the cake. In this case, scientists observed the interaction of human DNA with photons which is the substance of the world around us. The photons were first placed into a vacuum. In this environment, their movements were observed to be totally random. Much like a bunch of middle schoolers at a dance. Just kidding. All that changed once the human element was entered into the equation. After human DNA was introduced into the experiment, the photons no longer acted randomly. Instead, they began to follow the form of the DNA that was introduced. All this was a serious surprise to the scientists who found the photons behaving “surprisingly and counter-intuitively.” The results were so shocking they were compelled to state that, “We are forced to accept the possibility of some new field of energy!”

What does all this add up to? Science is showing that our emotions affect our DNA, and that DNA has the power to shape the world around us. Therefore, our emotions have tremendous power to shape our world.

How incredible is it that science is starting to catch up with what the Bible has been telling us all along! In Proverbs 24:3 we read: “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (ESV)

How much clearer could that get? Each one of us is a walking, talking wellspring. Our thoughts and feelings are spilling out and shaping the world around us. We’ve all experienced it, and now science is confirming it.

Another verse that speaks to the power of our thoughts/emotions is Proverbs 23:7: “For as he thinks in his heart, so he is.”

We have such power to affect the world, and the greatest place to start is within ourselves. The thoughts we think generate emotions that are constantly shaping our internal and external worlds.

Now that you know how powerful your thoughts and feelings are, what kind of well springs are you going to be today?
