Hillsong’s Brooke Ligertwood Asks the Question We All Avoid: ‘Are You Building Your Own Kingdom or God’s?’

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33). In a recent talk, Hillsong's Brooke Ligertwood broke this often-overlooked verse down, forcing us to examine our lives in a new way.

Watch this Hillsong Worship interview at Forward Conference, Free Chapel Church’s annual youth conference in Georgia. Brooke LigertWood and the Hillsong Worship team talk comparison, kingdom building and leading others in worship.

The team gives amazing advice for new worship leaders. Aodhan King of Hillsong Young & Free shares on how worship leaders should just be themselves because we are all made differently. While David Ware shares on how we can “own it” as worshippers and let God open doors for you. Dave encourages us to not compare ourselves with each other because no one wins when we do.

Brooke shares on how you have to spend more time leading yourself in worship than leading others. Living a life of worship is more about honoring Jesus than fulfilling our dreams. Which can get confusing for anyone in our humanity.

Brooke talks about social media being a high anxiety habit. She encourages us to fall in love with the word of God instead. Ligertwood emphasizes that in the search for our identity God does not ask you to be anyone other than you. It is not about popularity it is about following Jesus.

Brooke ends with an inspiring and challenging note as Christians “It’s not about popularity, it’s not about influence. It’s like what kingdom are you building? Because if you’re slipping into comparing to all these other people, maybe the kingdom you’re trying to build is yours and not the Kingdom of Christ.”
