Hillsong United’s new album People is releasing April 26, 2019. This anthemic artful body of work will bless millions in its pursuit to bring the grace of God into our everyday humanity. The Billboard award-winning band, released four singles as of recent, let’s take a look.
‘Another in the Fire’
Another in the Fire is a powerful anthem ideated by Hillsong NYC Worship Pastor Chris Davenport. Coming from the story of God miraculously saving Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego for denying King Nebuchadnezzar’s command to worship idols. When the men were thrown in a fiery furnace for their disobedience, they were left unscathed from the flames, “He said, ‘Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.’”(Daniel 3:25). People saw the fourth man in the fire with them, an apparition that many say is Jesus or God himself. The message of this song shows us we are not alone, even in life’s hardest trials.
‘As You Find Me’
As You find Me brings a simple concept, of God finding us right where we are at. Pastor Joel Houston, wrote it out of a season of feeling lost and wanting to walk away from life’s circumstances. The lyrics are honest and raw:
I’ve been strong
And I’ve been broken within a moment
I’ve been faithful
And I’ve been reckless at every bend
I’ve held everything together
And watched it shatter
I’ve stood tall and I have crumbled
In the same breath.
But someone encouraged Joel along the way, that God would help him write his way out of the season, through songs and melodies, that would help him in his journey. The song is extremely relatable in that it brings grace to the things we’ve done, and love to the places where God found us in the first place.
‘Whole Heart (Hold Me Now)’
Whole Heart (Hold Me Now) speaks of God holding us despite our past sin or shame. The lyrics sing”
Once I was broken
But You loved my whole heart through
Sin has no hold on me
‘Cause Your grace holds me now
It’s the idea that grace holds the true ground of our lives, and nothing can separate us from the love of Christ.
And finally Good Grace is definitely the most anthemic song released so far. The title of the album People possibly originates from this song. It is an incredible song to sing corporately because at the end of it you will literally be shouting “Jesus!” and dancing in holy triumph.
The album is sure to bless the multitudes and inspire a new generation to worship God with fervor and honesty. We love the forethought and lyrical depth these songs provide. You can’t help but sing them and feel immediately connected to the real and tangible presence of God.
