Officer Michael D’Aresta of the Middletown Police Department made the heartbreaking decision to put his loyal and beloved K-9 partner, Hunter, down after Hunter was diagnosed with an aggressive form of liver cancer, according to Inside Edition.
In a photo released by the Middletown Police Department, Officer D’Aresta lovingly cradles Hunter as he is overcome with emotion, burying his face in Hunter’s fur.
The pair are seen walking past fellow officers outside the veterinary clinic, each standing in salute to Hunter for his faithful 10 years of service to the people of Middletown.
“Hunter and Officer D’Aresta have been such a huge part of our department the past ten years. Such a dedicated K-9 team. It will never be the same. Rest in Peace Hunter you’ve done well. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Michael D’Aresta and his family,” the Middletown Police Department commented.
