People go from expectant parents to parents in just one day. The role of a parent is a full-time job with a lifetime commitment. Most areas of life that demand such a level of responsibility require a permit, license, certificate or degree, but when parents are endowed with the massive responsibility of caring for a baby, there is no prerequisite. So, it’s to be expected that new moms and dads may be a bit shell-shocked as they embrace the title “parent.”
This Truthmark episode pays tribute to new parents everywhere. Poets Aaron and Viergeni White lovingly reflect on their journey from being simply a smitten dating couple, to marrying each other, to ultimately becoming parents. They are baffled and delighted to see their daughter reflect both of their traits back to them.
“We’re in charge of a human being. A soul. A person. Who looks like us, just a smaller version. A mixture of both of our baby pictures.”
Embracing their new roles of “mommy” and “daddy” proves to strengthen their attraction to each other. Viergeni honors her husband, Aaron, by observing, “Like, you’re a daddy, that’s new. I never knew that would actually make me more attracted to you.”
