Jeremy and Jessica Courtney share the beautiful story of how their "yes" to love people in war-torn Iraq led to the creation of Preemptive Love Coalition.

More than 200,000 civilians have been killed in Syria and Iraq. Millions of survivors have been left in poverty. Jeremy and Jessica Courtney founded Preemptive Love Coalition to serve these people: the most vulnerable victims of war.

The Courtney’s journey into frontline aid for Iraqis and Syrians began through a simple effort to help one little girl they met in Iraq. Jeremy explains that “[we] met this little girl, who was in need of a lifesaving heart surgery. And in the process of trying to figure out how to help that one little girl and help her family, we ended up starting Preemptive Love Coalition.”

When a community has been liberated from ISIS rule, there are extremely practical humanitarian needs to be filled. As Jessica explains, Preemptive Love Coalition works to “try to get food and water to people as quickly as possible, and then we help them get back to work to help get the economy going in these neighborhoods again.”

War can produce feelings of darkness and hopelessness. However, Jeremy focuses on stories of redemption and rebuilding for ISIS affected communities. “There’s destruction, and there’s bombs in the distance, but the people are just full of hope.” Jeremy and Jessica never lose sight of this.
