I will be forever grateful that God brought us into each other’s life. Della Reese was my special angel.

For many years, I had the privilege of playing an angel on the hit television show, “Touched By An Angel.” It was my greatest joy to boldly deliver a message of God’s love every week on national TV. I absolutely adored playing the role of Monica and was thrilled to be cast alongside the amazing Miss Della Reese who played the role of Tess.

Della honored me by writing the forward for my forthcoming book, “Box of Butterflies.” While I did not know then that she would not live to see “Box of Butterflies” published, I know she is looking down on me today, happy to see it all come together.

Della became a mom to me, and when Della went through the tragic heartache of losing her only daughter, I became her daughter.

The story from “Box of Butterflies” that I share with you today is dedicated to Miss Della Reese and the important role that we were able to play in each other’s lives. The relationship seen on-screen was reflected in our real-life friendship off-screen. Full of love and compassion, we were genuine and true friends.

Surely, God had a plan for us: we didn’t know the comfort we would find from loving each other, but God knew. When I lost my sweet mother at such a young age, I never imagined that eventually, I would grow up to receive the love of a mother from someone else. Della became a mom to me, and when Della went through the tragic heartache of losing her only daughter, I became her daughter. Loving each other was healing for both of us.

Of course, I miss Della deeply and not a day goes by that I don’t think of her. But I am incredibly grateful to God for the years we shared together. I am grateful, too, that my faith gives me the hope to know I will see her again. Until then, she lives on in my heart, in the hearts of the people she touched throughout her rich and beautiful life and in the stories like the one I share in this video.

You can find more stories like this one in “Box of Butterflies,” which will be available for purchase on March 6, 2018. Visit boxofbutterflies.com to learn more about the book and pre-order your own copy.
