What if you could ask someone you admire—someone who has achieved great success—what their advice is? And how they got to where they are today?

In this video, we hear from musician and actor Damian McGinty about what keeps him grounded, how he pursues growth and how humility plays a huge role in achieving success.

In an industry that is ever-changing, it can be difficult to remain steadfast and true to yourself when it’s easier to worry about what comes next. Damian expresses a valuable lesson that he has learned on this issue, saying, “…Worrying is just an absolute waste of time because it doesn’t affect or help anything.”

Instead, he has chosen to take the focus off of worrying about the future and place it on personal growth. To combat those fears and anxieties that sometimes do rise up, Damian shares that it’s all about being anchored in something, even in simple ways.

“I try to create an anchor for myself on a day-to-day basis, whether it be [going] to the gym for even an hour, whether it be [reading] a book…something that sort of creates an anchor for you to stabilize yourself.”

And when you yourself are stabilized, humility can naturally follow. Humility, something that Damian believes is one of the most important aspects of his career, is all about having the right perspective.

“If you remain humble, you have a…clear vision.” A clear vision on your aspirations, targets and goals, he explains.

But a clear vision isn’t enough on its own to achieve your goals. You need work ethic as well because, as Damian puts it: “A work ethic allows you to grow.”

All of these things—giving up worrying, remaining humble and pursuing growth—have come together in Damian’s life to help him succeed. Not only does Damian have some incredible wisdom to share, but he also took the time to answer some fun questions that we had for him. Check out his answers below!
