The Contender” premiered on August 24 on EPIX®, an MGM company. Created by Mark Burnett, Chairman of MGM Worldwide Television Group, this boxing competition series spotlights 16 fighters each working to earn the championship belt. “The Contender” is hosted by Andre “Son of God” Ward. In this video, we sit down with Andre Ward as he shares words of wisdom for how to live your best life.

Andre Ward spent the better part of the 2000’s in the boxing ring. When Ward retired in 2017, he held an undefeated record as well as two-division world champion titles and an Olympic gold medal. Although Ward was successful as an athlete, boxing is a sport of hard knocks. “I’ve had challenges. I’ve had lawsuits. I’ve had injuries. I’ve had literal knockdowns in the ring, where the whole world is watching and they’re like ‘ok, what is this guy going to do?’”

Ward credits God as the source of guidance through his trials. “I opened up my Bible and I humbled myself and I was like ‘oh man, God, I need you. Come into my heart, come into my life. Help me to get my life in order.’ It’s at that point, you know, that things started to change…. For the better.”

This video reminds us all where the source of our strength comes from. Be sure to tune into “The Contender” as Andre Ward exemplifies weekly how we can all be better fighters.
