Last Thursday on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show, Chris Pratt and Colbert discussed the realities of being a Christian in an often dark industry.
While discussing Pratt’s recent 21-day Daniel Fast, Colbert asked Pratt if he has ever felt like the prophet Daniel in the Old Testament: “do you ever feel like you’re in the lion’s den by being a celebrity in the public eye…?”
Amidst laughter, Pratt responded: “Yes. Yes, I suppose I do.” He then went on to say, “But there’s this great quote, that I actually heard in church, and it felt really appropriate, ‘if the spotlight that is shining upon you is brighter than the light that comes from within you, then it will kill you.”
Pratt than explained the importance of tending to the light within, stewarding it well, being rooted in His light so that the outside light cannot consume or overshadow.
At the time, Pratt couldn’t remember the female pastor that shared the quote initially, but later he tweeted the exact quote, giving credit to Christine Caine: “That’s it!!! Christine Caine! She said it better than I did…I wanted to credit her with this great quote.”

Christine Caine’s inspirational quote is just as encouraging to us as I’m sure it has been to Pratt, thank you to both for sharing!
If the light that is within you is not greater than the light that is on you, the light that is on you will destroy you.
