A spontaneous round of applause broke out at Sydney International Airport for the dozens of American firefighters that arrived to join the bushfire efforts.

American firefighters touched down yesterday in Australia to aide in combatting the devastating bushfires currently ravaging countless acres, homes and wildlife.

Upon their arrival, with gear in hand, these brave men and women were met with applause and a standing ovation as shared on Twitter by Shane Fitzsimmons, commissioner of New South Wales Rural Fire Service:

The Huffington Post reports, "This is the first time since 2010 that the U.S. has sent firefighters to help Australia battle wildfires."

It is said that roughly 100 firefighters have been sent to Australia this winter, "with 50 to 60 more planned to be dispatched this week."
