If you’ve spent any time reading the news today, you may feel discouraged by the headlines. But there are important things, positive, inspirational, courageous and down-right heroic things, happening as well. We have a list of young women who are challenging our headlines and creating a positive impact around the world.

At only 14 years of age, Fahma Mohamed started a campaign to end female genital mutilation (FGM). Founded in Britain, she has raised worldwide awareness to this cycle of abuse. What a difference one young woman can make!

You’ve probably heard of the youngest Noble Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai.  As a campaigner for children and girls’ right to education, Malala was targeted and shot by the Taliban. She survived, and continues to be a prominent educational activist. Her actions will continue to be an inspiration to us.

Sejal Hathi and Tara Roberts co-founded GirlTank, an online community for young female entrepreneurs to address global issues. The website is full of inspiring women who are combating difficult problems, such as violence and poverty, in their communities.
