The world can be a heavy place sometimes. Our headlines, both local and global, can be depressing and leave us wondering what we can do to make any difference. When overwhelmed and defeated, remember that there are little things you can do to make this world a better place. Take heart!
Sometimes, changing the world involves a small gesture of kindness or thoughtfulness. The little things we do change the world around us. Give a compliment. Open a door for someone. Offer a smile or attention to a child. Say hi to a neighbor you recognize. Even small things can turn a day around.
If you want to go a little bigger, turn to your closet and weed out the clothes you don’t wear anymore. Let that be your bottom line as you go through your wardrobe. If you don’t wear it anymore, donate it. Even if you still love that fancy jacket with the tags on it, it will probably remain unworn and unused. Offer it up to someone to bring them joy.
Another great idea we often overlook is donating blood. A pint of blood can save a life, or several lives. We know needles can be scary, but if you feel comfortable, donating blood is a safe and great way to help the community.
You can change the lives of animals, too! Looking for a pet? Try your local animal shelter first. Rescuing a dog or cat is a wonderful way to help support society and you! It’s a gift that keeps giving. Having an adopted pet is a way to make your own world brighter.
