Are you feeling weary, unmotivated or discouraged in your relationship with God? Lately, is your spiritual fire barely hanging by a flame for the Lord? If so, you may be experiencing spiritual weariness, but before you chalk this up as hopeless or a permanent feeling, please know that there are several ways to overcome spiritual weariness, no matter how far off His path you have veered.
The truth is, spiritual fatigue is very real. Whether you are upset about unanswered prayers, battling anger or resentment, feeling lost or coping with broken dreams, you are not doomed to a life of perpetual weariness or deflation. In fact, this is confirmed in Isaiah 40:29, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Here are three ways you can break free from spiritual weariness:
Remind Yourself That He Will Never Abandon You
Often, people become discouraged on their walk with God because they feel as though God has forgotten them. Perhaps you’re experiencing a challenging time in your life, or maybe you’ve endured misfortune after misfortune. Whatever the case may be, you need to remember that there isn’t a millisecond that goes by when He is not thinking of you. Isaiah 49:16 reminds us of this very notion, “See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”

Overcome Weariness Through Worship
I know, I know. You may be thinking, “Worship?! I barely have a fire inside to believe let alone pray.” Overcoming weariness through worship requires some effort, but when you continually seek the Kingdom of God, especially during times of frustration, anger and confusion, everything else will follow. Your spirit will strengthen because rejoicing in Him will transform and renew your heart and mind. The more you worship, and the more you serve, the weaker the devil’s advances become to tear down your spirituality.
Think Back to Past Milestones and Testimonies
Often, we forget that we are experiencing the very thing we prayed for long ago. We become so wrapped up in the future, and even worrying about the present, that we forget how far we’ve come, thanks to our Lord and Savior. When you recall past milestones and think back to everything the Lord has done in your life, your weariness will subside, and gratitude will fill your heart. The Lord has shown up in the past and He will continue to show up for you in the future. In fact, He is protecting you at this very moment from the unseen: “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11).
No matter how hopeless your spiritual battle may feel, encourage yourself in the Lord. Never quit. Taking a baby step forward toward renewed faith is far more impactful (and less stressful) than walking backward and cultivating an attitude of doubt and despair. Ask yourself this question: Will I allow Satan the power to steal my joy? If I may, allow me to answer on your behalf: “Of course not!” The enemy is not worthy of your time let alone your entire sense of joy, right? Right! Invite the Lord back into your life through prayer, and ask Him to help you serve Him with a renewed spiritual flame.
